A-WOL Dance Collective is a 501(c)3 organization with a mission to embody the notion of “aerial without limits” through presentation of world-class performances and educational opportunities that defy expectation, ignite inspiration and foster creativity.
EDUCATION DIRECTOR POSITION
A-WOL Dance Collective is seeking an Education Director to lead our adult aerial program, Aeros Program (A-WOL’s Youth Performance Company) and FlyCo (A-WOL Adult Training Program). This position requires oversight of the programs and communication with all parties involved including students, coaches, and A-WOL staff. The Education Director works with the program directors and the operations manager under the direction of the Executive Director and the Artistic Directors. The Education Director should be well versed in a high level of aerial across all disciplines, with experience in education as a coach, manager, or director. In addition, the director should have experience in the professional performance world, experience and proficiency with aerial rigging, and stage management with an overall desire to improve education in aerial arts, with a mission to make it accessible to a variety of learners.
The Education Director must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, to internal staff, parents, and students. Proficiency, Word, Excel, and Google Drive is required. Knowledge of MindBody is a plus. Should be service-oriented and able to work well independently and as part of a team. Will be expected to complete detail-oriented work in a fast-paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Review, update, and write curriculum for adult classes, Aeros program, and FlyCo program annually (with the assistance of the program directors).
Outreach for seasonal workshops, both with local and out-of-town artists.
Work with the operations coordinator on the annual education calendar and review this with Executive Director
Observe coaches in the classroom and provide feedback bi-annually.
See that A-WOL is current with education practices in the circus arts.
Work with the Executive Director on the budget for programs and pricing for regular adult classes.
Create/Implement class-level prerequisites and develop a tracking system for coaches and students.
Direct student showcase: develop theme, communicate to coaches, create a show order, solo/duo applications, and coach assignments, gather music, schedule sound and lighting person, and work closely with the operations manager, executive director, and program directors as needed.
Schedule ongoing education opportunities for coaches.
Manage teacher and substitute approvals for class disciplines & levels.
Work with the operations coordinator to develop summer camp youth schedules, staffing, descriptions, and communications with park host cities as needed.
Work with the operations coordinator to develop summer workshops and classes in the park.
Complete skills and strength assessments for incoming students as needed.
Check-in students for classes or rehearsals if the schedule permits.
Promote A-WOL classes as needed through social media and other avenues.
Be willing to teach and sub classes when necessary.
Hold/Lead coach meetings in the fall for regular classes and attend coach meetings for Aeros and FlyCo.
Hold/Lead coach informational meetings for summer camps in the spring.
Schedule teacher trainings or lead teacher trainings
Assist in growing our community outreach, which includes creating opportunities for our training program students to perform, working with local schools and creating community events around our student population.
Provide a safe and inclusive environment for students and staff to excel in training aerial arts
Assist with conflict resolution between students, their peers, and coaches
Compensation
Compensation for this position is broken into two job descriptions
Education Director Admin - $20 / hour (may be adjusted based on experience)
Aerial Coach - $30 / hour
8 hours per week, 4 hours can be remote, 4 hours need to be on-site at a regular weekly time
